A 60-minute mental game session for youth bowlers, the Friday before the Striking Against Breast Cancer Youth Mixed Doubles. Walk in overthinking. Walk out with a plan for every frame, including the one that scares you.
You don't need to shut those thoughts off. You need something to do with them. That's what tonight is for.
No lectures and no homework. Four tools you practice in the room, write on one card, and use tomorrow on the first shot.
Nerves mean you care. You'll learn what your body is really doing when your heart races, and a breath that turns it into energy you can use. Then we write down tomorrow's biggest fear and tear it up.
Tool: the gutter breathTen swing thoughts become one cue word. You pick yours, then walk through tomorrow's first shot in your head, start to finish, with that word leading the way.
Tool: your cue wordA bad shot only costs you one frame if you let it go. Turn, breathe, name it, cue. We rehearse it out loud so your body knows it before your brain has to.
Tool: THE RESETDoubles partners get matched on Sunday from block scores, so you could bowl with someone you've never met. Tonight you decide what kind of partner you'll be: what you'll say when they're struggling, what you'll never do, and how you'll celebrate. Then you practice it with someone new in the room.
Tool: the partner promiseEverything you build tonight goes on your Tomorrow Card. It's pocket-size, written in your own words, and it's there between games when you need it.
Parents, this is also the card you'll see on the kitchen counter in the morning.
"Definitely using a cue word. It helped me focus in my 2nd block and I did really well."Aleena · youth bowler
"Learning about the champions routine and how to focus and not overthink when bowling."Hunter · youth bowler
Two bowlers were asked the same question and gave the same answer. The cue word is the tool that sticks, so tonight is built around it.

"I stepped onto the live TV pair and I made every single mistake in the book. Nobody ever taught me what to do in that frame."
That's why she built Beyond the Lanes: to give young bowlers the mental game she had to figure out alone. Mindset Shift Sesh is that lesson, packed into one hour, the night it matters most.
Parents are welcome to sit in the back row at no charge. You'll hear the same four tools your bowler is learning, so tomorrow you're speaking the same language.
You'll go home with your own card too.
Youth bowlers competing in the Striking Against Breast Cancer Youth Mixed Doubles, or anyone bowling in Houston that weekend who wants a calmer, clearer head going in. Beginners and seasoned competitors both leave with something to use.
No. We won't touch your release or your ball. This hour is all about the mental side: nerves, focus, bouncing back and being a great partner.
Not at all. Partners are matched from block scores, so nobody knows theirs on Friday night. Shift 04 is built for exactly that. You decide what kind of partner you'll be, and you practice with someone new in the room, just like Sunday.
Just yourself. We provide the Tomorrow Card, pens and everything else. Wear something comfy.
That's the whole point. We start at 6:00 and you're out the door by 7:00.
Friday, October 16 at 11:59 PM Central. After that, seats are $49.
